Overview

NetWorker® Archive™ is an advanced data management application that enables a NetWorker backup server to deliver data archival and retrieval services to authorized clients across the network. NetWorker Archive augments NetWorker's existing high-performance network backup and recovery capabilities by providing long-term storage for business-critical and project-related data. Using NetWorker Archive, users and administrators can create easily-retrievable and safe archives of project data, while managing storage more efficiently and conserving valuable disk space.

1. User archives data by creating a description file.
2. Next, the user sends the description file along with the data files to be archived to the NetWorker server.
3. The NetWorker server retains the description file ...
4. Then sends the data files to storage media for long-term safekeeping.

    Questions & Answers

    QuestionAnswer
Is NetWorker Archive easy to use? YES! Users can simply and quickly initiate archives and retrievals via simple request windows. Archive requests can even be reused, for data sets that are archived on a frequent basis.
What Legato software do I need to deliver archive to the network? Your storage management server must be running NetWorker 4.2 (or higher), enabled with the TurboPak option (if applicable) and the NetWorker Archive application.
Using the Archive cloning feature, can you clone from one media type to another? YES, source and destination volumes for archive cloning can be of different media types. You must have at least two backup storage devices attached to the NetWorker server to take advantage of archive cloning.
Can a text annotation be used to describe the archive set? YES, the archive annotation field allows text references of up to 1,024 characters. Querying on the annotation field instead of relying on path names makes retrieval intuitive and easy.
Can backups and archives be written to the same storage device? YES, backup files and archive sets can be written to the same storage device, but on distinct media. NetWorker automatically tracks backup and archive media separately.
